Legislative Update: March 6, 2007

By: Prospector

Today I continued to meet with transportation committee members, 3 from the Assembly and 2 from the Senate.  However neither transportation committee met today, and since budget hearings are scheduled to begin next week, there's a good chance they may not meet again for awhile.  My first meeting was with Assemblywoman Francine DelMonte who has always been a friend and supporter of our issues.  She is a co-sponsor of Assemblywoman Lupardo's confiscation bill and her office promised to take a look at A2780, "Return of Stolen Vehicles" with the possibility of signing on. I also had several unscheduled talks with people who sometimes work behind the scenes to assist in our efforts, one of whom has been trying to get me an appointment with someone in the Assembly Speaker's office.

The "Red Light" bill has finally re-appeared as S405, but does not yet have a companion bill in the Assembly.  One bill that we all need to be concerned with has been re-introduced.  A5902 would require ALL motor vehicles in New York State to be equipped with ignition interlock devices, punishing the innocent along with the guilty.  Advise all your friends, family, neighbors, co-workers, and anyone else you come in contact with to call their Assemblyman to oppose this bill. This kind of madness cannot be ignored.  I also met with the Assembly Oversight Committee to request that they examine 2 bills that were passed in 2001 (accident investigation and motorcycle awareness training) to determine the status of implementation of these programs.  They promised to investigate and advise me.

I have full schedules of appointments for the next 2 weeks.
